This 4-week Junior NatureSketch Online: Grassland Wildlife course is taught by children’s book illustrator Val Lawton, who guides us through art fundamentals such as line drawing, understanding shapes and shading techniques, with a fresh and fun approach that will encourage budding artists to create beautiful nature sketches. Using eco-literacy principles from world-renowned artist and naturalist, Robert Bateman, we encourage participants to connect to nature through art and observation.
In this course, we will cover sketching some animals and landscapes of the grasslands drawing what you see and observe, understanding the basics of value, texture, light, and shadow, understand that everything is made of basic shapes, and learn some basics of nature journaling and new understandings of some animals and plants.
Each week we will send out a digital study sheet to print and bring to class.
At the end of the program students have the opportunity to submit their art to be put up in the NatureSketch Gallery.
Instructor will email students with finalized details a few days prior to the beginning of the class.
All classes can be watched later if you cannot make the times listed! Instructors are also available by email for individual critiques or questions outside of class time.
